Glossary of Terms

Esthetics

Two terms exist to describe the field of professional skin care – aesthetics and esthetics, the only difference being that “aesthetics is used in British English while “esthetics” is used in American English. Aesthetics/esthetics is a philosophical study that deals with the nature and appreciation of art, beauty and taste. Its connection to professional skin care is the application of knowledge, machines and ingredients to improve the beauty of your complexion, body, hands and feet. Assisting you in becoming your personal best. If your skin is perfect and feet like petals? Then you need protection for your asset to make it last, and you need to know how to care for it at home so you’re not accidentally sucking all the moisture out of it. I can help you out of the cycle of acne, roll back time with age-reversing treatments, or whatever is most important to you. My goal is to meet you where you are and help you get to where you want to go.

High Frequency Machine (Tesla)

This machine uses argon gas in a glass electrode to create a tiny lightening storm on its surface This tiny storm kills bacteria, reducing swelling and redness. I use this after every facial that involves any extractions. This leaves you ready to go to lunch without looking like you’ve had extractions. Also this machines stimulates collagen, elastin and also oxygenates the skin cells.

Galvanic Machine

The galvanic works to pull ingredients deep into the epidermis for optimal hydration and nourishment. Using positive and negative polls to cause the healing, repairing ingredients to reach the cells needing nourishment the most. Diminishes wrinkles and fine lines through deep hydration of the skin.

Micro-current Machine

Used to stimulate the muscles in your face and neck that have begun to lose their tonicity. Effectively releases tight and tension filled muscles and stimulates muscle cells to build and tone. Creates a soft, relaxed expression that is youthful.

Derma-planing Machine

This machine is great for exfoliation! And it uses only distilled water to do the work. Remove two to three weeks of dead skin cells in one treatment. Great for sensitive skin and anyone struggling with clogged pores.

Steamer

The steamer is used to keep the enzymes working and to prepare the skin for any extractions. I position it so that it is not hot or uncomfortable. Enjoy a little added aromatherapy if you wish.

Comedogenic

An ingredient in a product that causes blackheads by blocking pores of the skin. The pore is clogged by the ingredient hyper drying the skin cells and creating a plug. The trapped oil dilates the pore and then turns black from oxidation. Blackheads are a symptom of an ingredient. I can assist you in identifying the ingredient in your skin care routine that is creating the blackheads. You can live blackhead free with a few simple ingredients.

Non-comedogenic

Ingredients that do not dry the skin or clog the pores. The natural oil your skin produces is the most nutritious and most beneficial. Using non-comedogenic ingredients allow your oil to join the layer of lipids on your skin surface and not be trapped below. This is very valuable in extinguishing acne, blackheads and fine lines/wrinkles. I use Pevonia Botanica, an all-natural, plant-based, non-comedogenic skin care line.

Facial

A professional skin care service to enhance your complexion and appearance. Each facial begins with a cleanse and an enzyme exfoliating peel. Then I give you feedback during your skin analysis of what I see and what steps need to be taken. If needed, I then do any extractions followed by a high-frequency treatment. Each facial treatment includes serum, mask and care cream. I will utilize different ingredients and machines to give you the luminous, fresh complexion you want and also help you with home care tips to keep your skin clear.

Body Wraps

Body wraps address the skin on your body. Different goals direct the selection of the body wrap best for you. Is your skin dry? Do you have cellulite you wish to smooth? A good detox in order? I have a wrap for each condition that will leave your skin beautiful, rejuvenating and glowing.

Faux Tan

This is the name given to tans created with ingredients applied to the skin and not from the sun. A faux tan application can follow a body scrub for a sun-kissed look. The product used at home can gradually deepen and darken the tan. This a great way to look amazing and at the same time protect your youth from the sun.

Body Scrub

Spring into the warm weather with a full-body scrub. Remove all those dead, dry skin cells that have built up over the winter and reveal dewy fresh skin. Great treatment before a wrap and essential before a faux tan.

Happy Feet

Happy feet are what you have at the end of your time with me! Your treatment begins with an aromatherapy foot soak, scrub and then a yummy massage with hydrating oils and creams. Hot towels and paraffin incorporated into your treatment to bring you ultimate relaxation. Leave with fresh, pretty feet.
